Hanoi, Vietnam - August 17, 2019: changing of the guard in front of the
Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum

This day trip is designed to give you a profound insight into the city's culture. Not only does the trip include all of the city's key attractions but also less well-known places so that you can truly experience local life.

One thing that helps me get more out of my trip down south is leaving time to visit Ngoc Ha Village and its silk weavers.

This area used to be relatively prosperous due to people travelling there from Hanoi regularly just to purchase their fabrics.

But now, with urbanization kicking off, they can only expect the best of a once-booming business.

At the Huu Tiep Lake, there's the wreckage of a US B-52 bomber shot in 1972 during the Christmas Bombings.

The village here shows a great contrast between then and now. While you walk down this location, you'll have a chance to interact with locals.

Then, the trip will continue with a visit to the historical Ba Dinh Square, which is a perfect place to review Vietnam's modern history.

The Square was named after a key communist leader who helped lead against French colonial forces during great social and political unrest in Vietnam.

It is the one, and only Ho Chi Minh won over the hearts and minds of his people by beginning the fight for independence again.

Within this Square are an exceptional house that once belonged to him and an incredibly important Presidential Palace; all must-see landmarks for anyone visiting Hanoi!

After lunch with other delegates and your tour guide, you'll visit the Temple of Literature, a prominent example of Neo-Confucian architecture considered Vietnam's most important historical site.

Next on the agenda is the famous Hanoi Hilton prison, where many military officers were imprisoned before the war.

Now it's time to chill out with two free bottles of beer as you ride a bike through the Old Quarter.

The charming area comes out with its small alleys, old houses, charming little cafes, boutique shops, and various food on the street.

Come up for air at Ta Hien Street, where you can enjoy a glass of local beer at one corner with all the locals around before jumping back in your bike rickshaw and finishing off the tour with a unique water puppet show.
