Day 1 — Hanoi to Vu Linh

The Off-road Cao Bang loop – 7 days begins in Hanoi at 9:30 a.m. with a safety briefing and bike orientation before you roll out of the city. The first day is a relaxed five-hour ride with plenty of photo stops as the landscape softens into countryside, ending at a warm Yao family homestay on the shores of Vu Linh (Thac Ba Lake).

Day 2 — Vu Linh to Ba Be

A standout off-road day. The route threads through Tuyen Quang as the terrain steadily gets tougher, with the final 10 km turning rough and bumpy — and, for those who want it, an optional detour along a military road built during the 1979 border war, a challenging but thrilling ride. The day ends at Pac Ngoi village beside Ba Be Lake, where you'll settle into a traditional stilt house and soak up village life.

Day 3 — Ba Be Lake

A gentler day off the bike as much as on it. A morning boat trip glides across Ba Be, Vietnam's largest natural mountain lake, with a stop at a local market full of regional specialities. Optional add-ons include the Dau Dang waterfall and a short forest ride, and the evening brings a visit to a small village school before another night in a lakeside stilt house.

Day 4 — Ba Be to Cao Bang

The highlight is Ban Gioc, one of Asia's most spectacular waterfalls — around 100 metres wide and stunning in every season, from lush green in August–September to ripe rice and marigold fields from October to December. Day 6 — Into Lang Son

Day 7 — Lang Son back to Hanoi

To dodge the traffic of Highway 1B, the return follows quieter roads past traditional villages and pagodas, rolling back into Hanoi by around 4 p.m. to complete the Off-road Cao Bang loop – 7 days.
