Tour Introduction
This Offroad Sapa Motorbike Adventure is a six-day ride through the most stunning corners of Northern Vietnam — Sapa, Bac Ha, Ha Giang, Dong Van, Meo Vac and Ba Be Lake. It begins the easy way, with an overnight train from Hanoi that whisks you and the bikes up to Lao Cai, so you wake at the foot of the mountains ready to ride. From there it's a journey through exceptional scenery and deep cultural richness, starting in Sapa — the town the French once called the 'Summer Capital of Northern Vietnam'.
Over the days that follow, this Offroad Sapa Motorbike Adventure weaves along back roads and mountain passes through the Flower H'mong market town of Bac Ha, the untouched hills of Hoang Su Phi and Xin Man, the karst plateau of Ha Giang and Dong Van, the legendary Ma Pi Leng pass above the Nho Que River, and finally the tranquil freshwater karst lake of Ba Be. You'll meet Nung, Tay, Dao, Ha Nhi and H'mong communities along the way and sleep in local homestays — all fully supported with bikes, gear, fuel, an English-speaking guide and the scenic night train included.

Tour Itinerary
Night 1 — Hanoi Night Train to Lao Cai
The Offroad Sapa Motorbike Adventure starts with a short ride to Hanoi train station, where the motorbikes are loaded aboard the overnight train to Lao Cai — a relaxed way to gain a day and start fresh in the mountains.
Route: Hanoi – Lao Cai (night train) · Stay: Sleeper train
Day 1 — Lao Cai to Sapa
The train pulls in around 5:30 a.m. for breakfast at a local restaurant, then it's a 100 km ride up to Sapa, 350 km northwest of Hanoi near the Chinese border. Famous for its fine, rugged scenery and rich cultural diversity, Sapa is the perfect launch point for the adventure ahead.
Distance: ~100 km · Meals: B, L, D · Stay: Hotel, Sapa

Day 2 — Sapa to Bac Ha
Descend from Sapa to Lao Cai city with a coffee stop on the Nam Thi River at the Vietnam–China border, then ride Road 70 and Road 153 toward Bac Ha. A warmer, less-developed 'weekend alternative to Sapa' at around 900 m, Bac Ha is famous for its Sunday Flower H'mong market and homemade rice, cassava and corn liquors. Tonight you stay in a local homestay.
Distance: ~120 km · Meals: B, L, D · Stay: Homestay, Bac Ha

Day 3 — Bac Ha to Ha Giang City
A morning of back-road riding to Xin Man and Hoang Su Phi — one of the most untouched areas of Ha Giang, ringed by wild mountains and forests and home to Nung, Flower H'mong, Tay and Ha Nhi communities. In the afternoon you join the main road to Ha Giang City, where you'll arrange your border permit.
Distance: ~200 km · Meals: B, L, D · Stay: Hotel, Ha Giang

Day 4 — Ha Giang to Dong Van
After collecting the border permit from the Immigration Police, you'll ride challenging mountain roads through the lands of colourful hill-tribes. The highlight is the Ma Pi Leng pass, a painting of cloud-wrapped ranges above the poetic Nho Que River, followed by the zig-zag track to the Vuong Family Residence — a wood-and-stone mansion of Chinese design — 14 km before the historic town of Dong Van, with its centuries-old H'mong clay-brick streets.
Distance: ~160 km · Meals: B, L, D · Stay: Hotel, Dong Van

Day 5 — Dong Van to Ba Be via Meo Vac
The road here is still under construction, so the pace is slow — but the landscape is among the most beautiful in Vietnam. You'll cross the wild Dong Van Rock Plateau (over 1,000 m) through Meo Vac, home to H'mong, Kinh, Tay and Dao communities who have kept their culture intact, then drop down toward Bac Kan. A local boat ride on the Na Hang reservoir leads to a village near the Dau Dang waterfall in Ba Be National Park.
Distance: ~160 km · Meals: B, L, D · Stay: Homestay, Ba Be

Day 6 — Ba Be to Hanoi
An early start and careful riding on Road 3. First, a boat ride across Ba Be Lake — the world's only freshwater karst lake, at the heart of a 10,048-hectare national park with 1,268 species and 13 ethnic villages — then on via Cho Ra to the main Road 3 back to Hanoi, timed to beat the rush-hour traffic and complete the Offroad Sapa Motorbike Adventure.
Distance: ~230 km · Meals: B, L · End: Hanoi
Trip facts: 6 days · Hanoi – Lao Cai – Sapa – Bac Ha – Ha Giang – Dong Van – Meo Vac – Ba Be – Hanoi · bikes, gear, fuel, guide, homestays & Hanoi–Lao Cai night train (with bike carriage) included; mechanic for groups of 6+. B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner. Routes may vary with weather, season and road works.
