Itinerary Of The Northern Vietnam Motorcycle Tours
To give you the most perfect and well-rounded portrayal of Northern Vietnam by motorcycle, we have concocted a series of adventures that will include some of the most beautiful sights and exciting trails. The journey will span over 11 days and will go as follow:
Day 1: Hanoi To Muong Waterfall
We gear up for the day by heading straight to the Northwest mountain regions, where we will catch sights of luscious jungles, refreshing rivers, and crystal clear streambeds. These will definitely be a exhilarating change from your hectic city lifestyle.
After the tiring day, you can unwind by relaxing in the restoring waterfall inside the National Reserve Park and rest in an exotic traditional stilt house.
Day 2: Muong Waterfall To Moc Chau Plateau
The next day, we will conquer a 50km slope leading through the National Reserve Park to arrive at the gloomy and mysterious village of Lung Van.
Then, to continue the journey, you will whisk through another challenging 10km, passing through a dense forest, to finally reach Mai Chau valley.
Mai Chau is the home to several ethnic communities. You will get a once-in-a-lifetime chance to learn about the Muong, White Thai, H’Mong, Tay, and Zao Hoa tribes. Especially, we can get to know more about the Thai White locals by having lunch together.
Later, we continue our motorcycle tour on old Highway 6, crossing 50km of dirt road lining the Da River to arrive at the famous Moc Chau plateau.
Day 3: Moc Chau Plateau To Ngoc Chien Hot Spring
Here comes our “day off”, riders! Get your camera ready right after breakfast because we will be going on a short tour to discover the alluring plateau, as well as some of the Black H’mong villages.
At night, you can reward yourself with a deserving bath in Ngoc Chien hot spring after an exhausting day full of actions.
Day 4: Ngoc Chien To Mu Cang Chai Terraced Rice Fields
Prepare yourself, riders! Today is going to be all about accomplishing challenges. You will be pushed to your limits as you ride through dirt, streams, steep slopes, and slippery mud. At the end of this difficult ride, you will arrive at Mu Cang Chai Terraced Rice Fields.
Day 5: Mu Cang Chai Terraced Rice Fields To Sapa
The fifth day of this journey will amaze you with the stunning beauty of Mu Cang Chai’s exquisite rice fields.
Following the awesome gravel roads and windy tracks, our next destination is O Qui Ho, the link between Lai Chau province and Lao Cai province. This is the highest pass in Vietnam, so the temperature can drop quite low once you set foot in the area.
At night, you are free to wander and discover Sapa, one of Vietnam's most well-known Northwest cultural towns.
Day 6: Sapa To Xin Man Town
Say goodbye to Sapa! The next activity on our plan is to visit one of the most famous traditional markets in the Northeast region, Bac Ha market. You’ll have the opportunity to buy different souvenirs and gifts for your friends and family back at home.
Our next stop is the remote Black H’mong villages. After your visit to the villages, we will ride 30km off-road along the Vietnam-China boundary to get to Xin Man town.
Day 7: Xin Man Town To Ha Giang
Be prepared, adventure-seekers. We will start our day by conquering the top of Chieu Lau Thi, the third-highest roof in Vietnam. However, be mindful of the fog and cold winds, the two most dangerous obstacles of this excursion.
To make even more exceptional memories, we ride downhill, pass Suoi Thau, U Bo, and wander down provincial roads No. 178 and Highway No.2 to admire the scenic view. This trail will lead us to the lively city of Ha Giang.
Day 8: Ha Giang To Dong Van Karst Plateau
Ha Giang’s landscape embraces numerous winding passes snaking around rugged mountains.
For off-road lovers, you can prove your skills on some of the most challenging paths full of muddy trails. Moreover, these routes will lead you to the house of various hill tribes, such as Lo Lo and H’mong where you can learn about their unique lifestyle.
Day 9: Dong Van Plateau To Bao Lac
On day 9, we will experience the most dangerous pass in Vietnam: Ma Pi Leng to Meo Vac market. Nonetheless, we guarantee that you will find the reward to be beyond gratifying. The 20km-ride will reveal the hidden natural wonder of Nho Que River.
After the brief stop at Nho Que River, we will continue to overcome a 30km dirt road to reach Bao Lac.
Day 10: Bao Lac To Ba Be Lake
On this day, we will move from Bao Lac to Ba Be. Once you have arrived at Ba Be, you will have complete freedom to explore the remarkable Ba Be lake. Additionally, we highly recommend that you engage in swimming or boating to get the fullest experience.
Day 11: Ba Be Back To Hanoi
After 11 days of discovering and conquering Northern Vietnam on motorcycle, it is finally time to come home. Make sure you enjoy the serene and calming nature one last time before you have to get back to the crowded city of Hanoi.
