If there were only nineteen days left to live, what would you do? Spending time doing boring daily activities or working almost time at your company. In this article, we’ll tell you about an amazing journey that we’ve enjoyed for 19 days - the Vietnam and Laos motorcycle tour.
We experienced countless interesting things during the journey and divided this motorbike tour into three main stages as below. Let’s get started!
The First Leg: Motorcycle Tour Vietnam To Laos
Day 1: Ha Noi - Hoa Binh (Mai Chau) 160km
The ideal place to start the motorcycle tour from Vietnam to Laos is Ha Noi - the capital of Vietnam. From there, it’s easy to travel down the west by motorbike to Mai Chau - the home of the Thai minority.
Mai Chau is also known as a peaceful valley in the midst of the majestic Northwest mountains. Visiting this place, we experienced the traditional activities of the people here, such as dancing, drinking rice wine, sleeping in Thai people’s houses, and so on.
Day 2: Mai Chau - Thanh Hoa 100km
Our next destination on the motorcycle tour Vietnam to Laos is Pu Luong, Thanh Hoa Reserve, which is about 70km from Mai Chau. This place is especially famous for its terraced rice fields and primeval jungle.
Day 3: Thanh Hoa - Viengsay In Laos From Na Meo
Before migrating to Laos, we finished the immigration procedures & Customs, thanks to the help of our Vietnamese tour guide. Arriving in Laos, we spent the whole day discovering Viengsay.
The Second Part: Motorbike Tour In Laos
Day 4: Viengsay To MuangKham Via Tam Piu - Hot Spring - Sanneu About 218km (B/L/D) Paved Road
On the way to Muangkham, we stopped by Tham Piu Cave. Tham Piu is considered a solemn memorial for 347 innocent people murdered in a missile attack on the United States in 1968.
Day 5: Muangkham To UXO Office - Phonesavanh– Phonsavan– Phonesavanh (B/L/D)171km
The next destination of the motorbike tour in Laos is Phonesavanh - the Xieng Khouang’s capital. Here we visited the UXO office and then explored the Phonsavan.
No one knows the true origin of the 2000-year-old stone jars in this place.
Besides, we also discover several local villages of Laos like Thong Hai Hin, Hai Hin, Hai Hin Lat Khai, etc. The afternoon is a great time to visit Muang Khoun - the place is famous for sitting giant Buddha.
Day 6: Phonesavanh - Luang Prabang Via Phoukhun (B/L/D) 265km Paved Road
We spent today’s time exploring several villages of the Hmong hill tribe and Tai Dam people, as well as learning about the local culture. After that, we left Xieng Khouang and drove to Luang Prabang.
Day 7: Discovering Luang Prabang (B/-/-)
Today we were free to explore Luang Prabang - the ancient capital of Laos, and enjoy the specialties of this place.
Day 8: Luang Prabang - Vang Vieng Paved Road 200km (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we drove to Vang Vieng and enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the route, which is accentuated by the contrast between the mountains and the plains.
Day 9: Vang Vieng – Vientiane Paved Road 200km (B/L/D)
During this day, we visited some famous destinations like Nam Ngum Lake, Wat Sisaket, Wat Si Muang, Wat Prakeo, That Luang monument, and Vientiane’s own Victory Monument.
Day 10: Vientiane To Konglo – Ban Kong Lo Homestay (B/L/D) 231km
On the way to Konglor cave, we visited Wat Prabath and a village specializing in selling dried fish. Following that, we spent the night in a local residential area in Ban Konglo village.
Day 11: Visiting Kong Cave, Then Motorbike Tour To Vinh City Via Laksao Border (B/L) 250km
We experienced a 7.5km journey along with Konglor underground of the HinBoun River through a longboat. Next, we moved to the Laksao border by motorbike, did exit procedures to Vietnam, and head to Vinh city.
The Final Leg: Motorbike Tour In Vietnam - Exploring Central Vietnam
Day 12: Vinh City - Ha Tinh (Huong Khe) 160km
From Vinh city, we went along the HCM road to Thanh Chuong district. Then we moved to Pho Chau town for a short lunch break and went to Kim Lien village - The great uncle Ho Chi Minh’s birthplace.
In the evening, we arrived at Dong Loc Crossroads, passed through remote countryside dotted with karst limestone formations, and spent the night in Huong Khe town.
Day 13: Huong Khe - Quang Binh (Phong Nha) 280km
We rode motorbikes to and explored Ke Bang - Phong Nha National Park, which has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage.
Day 14: Phong Nha - Quang Tri Khe Sanh (7 Hours Of Riding for 250 Km)
We headed in the west direction on Highway 9, then climbed Truong Son mountain to visit some village boards and admire the beautiful natural scenery of streams and waterfalls.
Continuing the motorcycle journey, we moved to Khe Sanh - a place that was once an important base during the period of the American war in Vietnam.
Day 15: Quang Tri (Visiting Vinh Moc Tunnels & DMZ) – Hue ( 6 Hours Of Moving for 200Km)
Today, we visited Quang Tri Citadel and Long Hung Church. Next, we moved to Vinh Moc tunnels, explored the Demilitarized Zone, and went to Dong Ha town to see the Dong Ha market. Then we drove straight to Hue.
Day 16: Motorcycle Tour To Hue For Sightseeing
We spent the whole day discovering Hue Imperial City by motorbike as well as enjoying interesting activities such as shopping, relaxing and so on.
Day 17: Hue - Hoi An Through Da Nang (5 Hours Of Moving - 150Km)
We conquered Hai Van Pass, enjoying the splendid beauty of nature here combined with the mountains and sea. Then we moved to Da Nang and were picked up at a hotel in Da Nang, Hoi An.
Day 18: Hoi An – Easy & Free
On day 18th, we spent all day discovering Hoi An Ancient Town, and relaxing after a long motorcycle trip.
Day 19: Hoi An – Departure
The motorbike tour in Vietnam is also the last leg of the Vietnam and Laos motorcycle tour ending in Hoi An. We moved to Danang airport and came back home.
