Itinerary
1st day: Motorbike tour Hanoi - Phu Yen
Distance: 165 km
Meals: 2 servings (lunch, dinner)
Accommodation: Hotel
The day always begins with us setting off from Hanoi very early in the morning to avoid getting stuck in heavy traffic.
Starting at 9:30, we follow the Red River, stopping at the town of Son Tay and then continuing into mountainous Phu Yen town (in Son La Province) for the night.
It will be a long journey with a distance of 165 km riding on the motorbike.
2nd day: Motorbike tour Phu Yen - Mai Chau
Distance: 145 km
Meals: 3 servings (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Accommodation: Hotel
Today's schedule is something you can never miss: we will have a chance to chase and touch the clouds on the mountain tops in Ta Xua. In about 15 minutes, you'll see the clouds changing shape noticeably and a cloud waterfall flowing down through incredible mountains and hills.
It is a popular spot for experienced drivers looking for a more challenging yet truly affecting experience that makes them feel like they're on cloud nine! We'll then make our way along Black River to the next destination.
After that, the team will go on a boat to pass over Van Yen. We may opt to have lunch in a farm town in Moc Chau or Bac Yen. Then, we will proceed to explore Moc Chau's plateau with its many remarkable sights - like vast tea plantations, peach and apricot gardens, etc. Also noteworthy is a trip up to Hua Tat pass, where one can also savor some genuinely breathtaking views!
There are many different ways to get to Mai Chau valley. One of the most popular suggestions is taking bikes and passing rough terrain, which is full of twists and turns and requires decent driving skills. But it's well worth the time spent biking the scenic path that passes by such beautiful scenery!
3rd day: Motorbike tour Mai Chau - Tan Ky
Distance: 290 km
Meals: 3 servings (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Accommodation: Hotel
We will start early in the day, after breakfast, to depart from Mai Chau and head to Tan Ky. It is sure to be one of the most challenging days in the schedule for untrained bikers because of its difficult route and long riding time. The route is small and curvy, with many sharp turns!
We will follow the majestic and paved road near Song Ma. The team then stops in Cam Thuy for lunch before continuing on the historic HCM Trail until we reach Tan Ky in Nghe An. We will also stay in a local hotel here for a night.
4th day: Motorbike tour Tan Ky - Phong Nha
Distance: 280 km
Meals: 3 servings (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Accommodation: Hotel
We will cross over the HCM Highway and head to Pho Chau. After a brief visit to many historical sites, we continue onward on the highway until the team arrives in Phong Nha - Ke Bang national park. This park is one of the world heritage sites and has numerous caves renowned for their beauty and mystery.
This National Park's dynamic karst formation has been developing for 400 million years and is central to Asia's most impressive karst attractions.
The site endured immense tectonic transformations (lasting from the Paleozoic era through till today), resulting in a booming assortment of staggering natural features that will leave you awe-inspiring. This 65-kilometer area of spectacular caves and hidden waterways reaches out to the outer edge of Lao's territory.
5th day: Motorbike tour from Phong Nha- Dong Hoi
Distance: 60 km
Meals: 3 servings (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Accommodation: Hotel
After visiting many magnificent caves in the National Park, we will head to Dong Hoi. This charming city was an interesting point of our motorbike tour. Like most coastal areas in Vietnam, there are many tourist attractions here for us to explore, including beaches, parks, monuments, squares, etc.
The first spot is Tam Toa - a church in the center of Dong Hoi, constructed in 1886. During wartime, it was bombed a total of 48 times. Luckily, the bell tower remained undamaged.
Another site on the must-visit list in Dong Hoi is Nhat Le Beach. It provides poetic and tranquil scenery for seaside walks along its white sands. The beach is surrounded by various resorts and hotels, making it very accessible for visitors to visit.
6th day: Motorbike tour Dong Hoi - Khe Sanh
Distance: 200 km
Meals: 3 servings (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Accommodation: Hotel
Today's route is surely one of the most stunning and unforgettable roads in this motorcycle tour of central Vietnam. The team will travel on another part of the HCM trail close to the border with Laos.
During this ride, that's almost 200 kilometers; we won't see other riders except maybe a few vehicles driven by locals. Rather, you're bound to see some wildlife and lush green mountainous terrain, two reasons why this area is gaining popularity for a motorcycle trip.
When we're out of Dong Hoi, the team can spend some time checking out the military structures of former United States Air Bases, Marines bases, and Khe Sanh galleries, where you can immerse yourself in the majestic history of Vietnam.
We then continue on our motorcycles to the west and arrive at a local hotel to stay for a night.
7th day: Motorbike tour from Khe Sanh - Hue
Distance: 180 km
Meals: 3 servings (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Accommodation: Hotel
After breakfast, the team will drive toward Quang Tri, stopping to visit some famous sites, such as an old citadel and Long Hung Church. In 1972, Quan Tri citadel was the site of a fierce battle that lasted for 81 days.
From Cua Viet, we will continue riding through the coastline to Cua Tung Beach, exploring the Vietnam Demilitarized Zone, visiting a tunnel called Vinh Moc, and finally, having lunch. Vinh Moc tunnel complex is strategically positioned so that the local settlement can escape bombing raids from foreign military forces.
We begin the next schedule with a visit to a local market in Dong Ha town. The team will have a chance to see many other war relics on the way to the next destination, Hue ancient city.
If time permits, we can quickly stop at the Imperial Citadel before enjoying the night sky on the famous Perfume river bank. Vietnamese street food is available for dinner, and the team will stay at a nearby hotel.
8th day: Motorbike tour from Hue -Hoi An
Distance: 145 km
Meals: 3 servings (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Accommodation: Hotel
Today's route is quite easy and comfortable, with a paved ride to Hoi An. Before leaving Hue, we will visit several noteworthy landmarks in this ancient city, including relics, tombs, and other spots.
We then begin to travel to the next destination. Once we reach Hai Van Pass, we will get a fantastic view of Lang Co Bay leading up to the imposing sea.
Next, we continue to Da Nang and enter another coastline filled with magnificent marble mountains for us to admire! The team stops in Hoi An and settles overnight at a local hotel.
9th day: Sightseeing at Hoi An
Meals: 3 servings (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Accommodation: Hotel
On the 9th day of our journey, we will spend the whole day exploring the charming Hoi An. Some of the must-visit spots include the Phuoc Kien Temple, Japanese Cau pagoda and Tan Ky House, etc. are all worth our visit.
If you'd rather explore by boat, the team will enjoy a riverboat tour that would allow you to see this ancient town from a different perspective!
We then drive to My Son, located 40 km southwest of the ancient Hoi An town. A World Heritage recognized by UNESCO, the sanctuary has been renowned for its rich history and beautiful architecture that draws visitors worldwide.
After that, the team will return to Hoi An for a visit to rural villages where we can explore how locals craft items and grow herbs for use or as means of income.
10th day: Motorbike tour from Hoi An - Kon Tum
Distance: 290km
Meals: 3 servings (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Accommodation: Homestay
Today's itinerary presents an intense option that includes a ride up to Phuoc Son. From there, we hit the hardwoods and ride on a twisting mountain route to Lo Xo before descending into a more remote region inhabited by Ba Na people and visiting "Rong" houses.
The "Rong" is a unique tradition shared by ethnic groups in the Central Highlands. "Rongs" are tall houses split into sections and built on stilts to prevent wild animals from damaging them. For many generations, local people have used these houses for celebrations, social activities, and housing their important documents.
Today, tourists love to visit these villages to see one of the most beautiful parts of Vietnam's diverse heritage with their own eyes! After saying our goodbyes to residents, we will set off for Kontum, where we will stay overnight.
11th day: Motorbike tour from Kon Tum - Buon Me Thuot
Distance: 240km
Meals: 3 servings (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Accommodation: Homestay
Right after we have breakfast at the hotel, the team will hop on our bikes and make our way to Pleiku and visit the La Drang Valley on the way before reaching Buon Me Thuot.
Visitors can see spectacular waterfalls, have a gander at fields brimming with coffee plants, connect with locals and pick up some bargains! Buon Me Thuot is also known as the capital of coffee in the country.
Buon Me Thuot is a city with a lot to see and do. It might seem like it's impossible to visit all the special coffee gardens, rubber forests and gong concert spaces, landmarks, and ancient relics within the city limits of Buon Me Thuot in a matter of days or even weeks.
We will stay in a regional homestay and have the perfect opportunity to learn more about the people's customs while enjoying a refreshing cup of coffee during our downtime. Having gotten a good night's rest after enjoying ourselves, we're ready to take off on two wheels once again and continue exploring different landscapes on our off-road motorbikes.
12th day: Motorbike tour from Buon Me Thuot - Nha Trang
Distance: 190km
Meals: 3 servings (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Accommodation: Homestay
After an unforgettable time in the mountainous region, we will depart to Nha Trang - the famous coastal city in the country, where pristine spots and stunning beaches welcome us.
In search of a place to set our heads overnight post-traveling on the motorcycle, we will rest in a hotel with a sea view.
13th day: Enjoy yourself at Nha Trang
Distance: 190km
Meals: 2 servings (breakfast, lunch)
Accommodation: Hotel
Khanh Hoa contains many beautiful natural features. The province is well-known for its pristine islands, gorgeous beaches, interesting diving sites, cultural heritage sites, and historical attractions.
For the adventurous, you can get a stunning view of the islands, beach, and wilderness as you take a cable ride to Hon Tre Island or visit some nature reserves in the city.
There are several other activities and destinations to check out. In particular, tourists interested in learning more about marine life can visit Tri Nguyen Aquarium or Institute of Oceanography, where they might find countless sea creatures. For those who want to know more about the history and culture of this region, Chong Promontory and Cham Tower are the best places to go.
Seafood in this city is equally as famous for its abundance, freshness, and affordability as it is for its yumminess. It's a big mistake if you don't try the seafood dishes here and there!
Our 13-day motorcycle tour of the north and the central of Vietnam will end here. As we hope the memories we uncover during this trip are exciting, we want your experience to be one that you'll remember forever!
