Ho Chi Minh Road Motorbike Guide- Overview

The Ho Chi Minh Road, winding along the Laos border, was once used for convoys transporting goods to the south during the Vietnam War. It has no definite starting and ending points, so it appeals to many experienced drivers to explore and challenge their driving skills. Nowadays, Ho Chi Minh road has mostly been paved to serve the movement of motorbikes, bicycles, and even cars. Some slippery sections and bends still challenge the participants’ experience to experience this stretch.

Day 1: Hoi An – Khe Sanh Town

Start your 5-day trip by riding Ho Chi Minh trail from Hoi An to Khe Sanh town along the Ho Chi Minh trail. This trip can take around 6 hours, traveling through the terrain mix, so be patient! We appreciate the scenery along both sides of the road because it evokes an untapped hidden beauty of nature. If you arrive in Khe Sanh town earlier than expected, take the time to visit the Khe Sinh battle base – a heroic relic left over from Vietnam’s war against America.

Day 2: Khe Sanh – Phong Nha National Park

It will take about 8 hours to complete this trip, so prepare and leave early. This road deserves the title of “the best road in Vietnam”, as it converges all the beauties of rivers, mountains, and majestic jungle. Besides, it will challenge your driving skills with straight open roads, tight corners, and even many bridges that are quite difficult to cross. View more Off-road Vietnam Motorcycle Tours 2023

Day 3: Phong Nha National Park

After two days of mostly driving, we think it’s time to take a break to recharge. Spend the third day of your journey exploring the mysterious caves in the Phong Nha National Park.

Day 4: Phong Nha – Northern Phong Nha

Although the decent north road is quite busy, it’s really hard to find an ideal hotel on your way. Go as far as you can to find an ideal place to stop on the way to Ho Chi Minh. Today’s route cannot be specified, as you will move to a certain area north of Phong Nha. If you still do not have a specific idea, we recommend moving to Hanoi’s north and then to the rest.

Day 5: Northern Hanoi – Pu Luong/Mai Chau

On the last day of the tour, you can choose one of two destinations: Mai Chau or Pu Luong. Both are ideal destinations for enjoying the beautiful natural scenery, simple rows of stilt houses, and stopping at a beautiful homestay.

After spending a day touring interesting destinations and enjoying delicious local dishes, it’s time to head back to Hanoi. The commute to the inner city only takes about 45 minutes, so time yourself to get back before rush hour.

Plan 2: 2 Days For The Ho Chi Minh Road Motorbike Tour

The 5-day journey will be ideal for giving you enough time to enjoy the scenery and immerse yourself in local life along the way. If time doesn’t allow it, you can still go on a 2-day motorbike tour by following our specific schedule below!
