North Vietnam Motorbike Tour from Hanoi to Halong Bay - 9 days

The motorcycle tour will require you to have a basic hold of a motorbike’s maneuvers, as well as basic knowledge of Vietnamese traffic laws. So be sure to do proper research before you choose to embark on a motorbike tour with us.

Without further ado, let’s get to know the itinerary list!

  • Destination 1 - Vu Linh (Day 1):

Thac Ba lake
Stunning view in Thac Ba lake, Vu Linh, Yen Bai

On our first day of the tour, we will need you to wake up early and head down the track alongside the Red River. The off-road route will allow you to experience the Northern region of Vietnam in its purest form and without the interference of modernity.

Our first destination is Thac Ba Lake - the largest man-made lake in Vietnam that houses countless small islands and a fresh breath from the urban scene. Right after that is dinner at Ngoi Tu village of the Dzao Tien people in Vu Linh so that you can have first-hand interaction with the lovely members of the community.

The village is also where you will stay the night after the 170-kilometer ride. We will prepare a friendly and cozy homestay for you!

  • Destination 2 - Mu Cang Chai (Day 2):

Mu Cang Chai, Yen Bai Province, Vietnam - September 18, 2019: H'mong woman farmer go on terrace rice fields on mountain at Mu Cang Chai, Yen Bai province, Vietnam

Day 2 is when we pick up the tempo, as we sense that our visitors are getting too comfortable on their feet!

Half the roads you travel on the second day of our tour are going to be off-road - which will also allow you to feast your eyes on the magical landscapes of Khau Pha Pass. Prepare some films or bring along your digital camera, because this is a scene you want to bring home to your family and friends for sure!

The motorcycle route between Vu Linh and Mu Cang Chai is one of the most challenging for intermediate motorbikers, so if you are feeling a little daunted, let your tour guide know. The good news is that, after the 220-kilometer stretch, you will have a choice between staying at a homestay establishment or a local hotel for a goodnight's rest!

  • Destination 3 - Bac Ha (Day 3):

Ta Van Chu commune, Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province, Vietnam - February 20, 2022: scenes of daily life of ethnic minorities in Ta Van Chu commune, Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province, Vietnam

Similar to Day 2, Day 3 will be a long stretch away from the hustling and bustling of the city towards a portion of Lao Cai called Bac Ha. Expect a tinge of chilliness on your skin as Bac Ha shares Sa Pa’s height from sea level - and consequently its cold climate.

Bac Ha is the epicenter of the rural beauty of the North, so prepare to gawk endlessly at the endless mountain ranges. Before you reach it, it's worth noting that the path that takes you to Bac Ha is not a smooth-sailing one and requires a lot of attentiveness while riding.

A much-needed sleep will come to you once you have finished the 230-kilometer-long path at the local hotel! One of the great highlight Vietnam Motorbike Tours in northwest region!

  • Destination 4 - Quan Ba (Day 4):

Ha Giang road trip

Day 4 takes you on a ride from morning to afternoon with plenty of scenery to go through. The atmosphere will be windy and stormy, and the track will not be forgiving, but we will keep a close eye on you whilst you take in the fascinating surroundings.

The most challenging and highest point you will have to go through is Chieu Lau Thi (currently at 2,4 kilometers high) - from which you earn a vantage point to soak in the endless stretches of soft fog and clouds of the mountains. Afterward, we will arrive at Hoang Su Phi - the nationally beloved landscape of rice paddies on the side of the mountain ranges.

If you manage to catch up to speed with the guides, we will lead you to the sunset sighting of a lifetime among the peaks!

  • Destination 5 - Bao Lac (Day 5):

Taking a bamboo rafting in Ha Giang!

Dong Van is the dream destination for your fifth day with us since the site is a world-renowned geological park. The space feels like a completely different realm from the Vietnam everyone is familiar with - with exquisite rock features and a distinct view and vibe.

The distance you need to travel will be considerably shorter than the previous few days - rounding up at only 180 kilometers. Nevertheless, the ride will be pleasant and interesting, and you will head to bed at the local hotel reminiscing.

  • Destination 6 - Bac Son Valley (Day 6):

Destination 6 - Bac Son Valley (Day 6):
Rice field in harvest time in Bac Son valley, Lang Son, Northeast Vietnam

Bac Son Valley is our next stop, and there are no words that can describe the location to serve it justice! For the next stretch of one of our most prolific Vietnam Motorcycle Tours, we’re gonna have you take a ride alongside the North side’s most peaceful and gorgeous villages and take in its air of ease.

Bac Son Valley doesn’t hold the most aspects of Vietnamese culture, but the picture that it weaves with its communities’ tales is colorful and endearing!

  • Destination 7 - Ha Long Bay (Day 7):

Destination 7 - Ha Long Bay (Day 7):
Halong Bay, Northeast Vietnam

After being filled with loving energy at Bac Son, we can finally head to Halong Bay via National Highway No.1. The highway itself has lots of traffic going through it, so we can guide you towards the Khe Ro forest and the Yen Tu route instead.

From there, it gives you an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of Yen Tu, as you will get to ride deep into the region and discover its exotic charm. Afterward, Ha Long City will welcome you with supper and fresh seafood to congratulate you on your efforts so far.

Right after lunch, we from Yen Tu head towards Quang Ninh city - the province of coal, in which Ha Long city is situated. In the late afternoon, we will arrive at Ruby Hotel in Ha Long city, which will provide you with a hearty supper with beer and freshly caught seafood.

  • Destination 8 - Ha Long Luxurious Cruise (Day 8):

Destination 8 - Ha Long Luxurious Cruise (Day 8):
Couple rowing kayak at? sea covered with fog and mist in Halong Bay. Ha Long Bay is popular tourist destination for sport kayaking and exploration.

The eighth day allows you to sleep in and relax. Once you are ready, the World Heritage Site will also be ready for you to explore and take in the breath-taking scenery the spot has to offer. Even when you are enjoying your lunch with our traditional Vietnamese dishes, the cruise ship will allow you to feast your eyes and soul on the wonderful atmosphere!

After lunch, we have the chance to leave the cruise ship and climb the peak of the bay and gawk at the skyline view of the magical site. Once you have recorded every inch of Halong’s beauty into your device or your mind, we can head back to the ship to learn how to make spring rolls together!

  • Return to Hanoi (Day 9):

Thien Cung Cave in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. This is one of the most beautiful caves in Vietnam.

Day 9 is for you to make your return back to the country’s capital of Hanoi. But before that, there is one more stop to be made at Sung Sot Cave at Halong Bay - the most astonishingly magnificent cave on the site. You will unknowingly let out many “Wow”s at the site for sure!

Before rush hour caves in, we will start making out way back to the city of Hanoi!

Final Note

Those are every stop you can make on our week-long trip through the North Vietnam Motorbike Tour from Hanoi to Halong Bay! So if you are feeling jumpy, grab your bags, pack your clothes, and we will take you through the journey of a lifetime. We hope we will see you soon!
